This is a placeholder page for www.disabilitystudies.jp. The goal is for this site to be a central clearinghouse of information related to disability studies in Japan.

This site was created by Karen Nakamura. I'm an an associate professor of anthropology at Yale University focusing on comparative disability politics and minority identity in Japan and the United States.

My first book was on deaf identity and sign language politics in Japan. My second book was on schizophrenia and severe mental illness in Japan. I am currently working on transsexuality and eugenics.

Please visit my academic home page for information related to my research and teaching. I also blog about disability issues on Photoethnography.com.

Watch this site for further developments.
